Miranda Moore
RDA Lead Assistant, Beacon DentistryFreelance Videographer / Documentary Content Producer
ZenOne is an Austin-based technology company working with independent dental practices across the country.
As part of what we’re building, we’re starting a new content project: documenting some of the most successful dentists and dental practices in the U.S. and breaking down what makes them successful so others can see, learn, and apply it in their own practices.
We’ll visit practices in person, spend time with the doctors and their teams, observe how they operate, ask questions, and capture the lessons, systems, decisions, and ideas that helped them build successful practices.
Think documentary meets business expedition – authentic, curious, fast-moving, and useful. Not overly polished corporate content.
We’re looking for an Austin-based videographer/editor to travel with me and help turn these visits into great stories.
Our first series will include approximately 4-5 trips, currently planned for Florida, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Indiana, and South Texas. Most trips will be 2-3 days, and travel expenses are covered by ZenOne.
What you’ll be filming
Each visit will be different, but generally you’ll capture:
- Interviews with doctors and practice owners
- Conversations/interviews with me
- Site visits and behind-the-scenes footage
- How the practice operates day to day
- Teams, workflows, systems, and interesting details
- Key observations and takeaways from the visit
- Candid moments and B-roll that help tell the story
The primary deliverable from each visit will be a well-edited long-form episode/story that captures what we learned from that practice.
We’re also intentionally filming enough high-quality footage that it can later be repurposed for YouTube, social media, short-form clips, the ZenOne website, customer stories, and other content.
The edited long-form version should generally be delivered within 5 days of the interview/shoot.
The environment
This is probably the most important part of the job.
Dental practices are busy and unpredictable.
A doctor might have five minutes for an interview, leave to see a patient, come back 30 minutes later, walk us through something in another room, and then suddenly have another 10 minutes available.
You need to be able to move quickly, adapt, and capture the story without disrupting the practice.
We don’t want a large production crew taking over the office.
The ideal person can walk into an environment, understand it quickly, set up efficiently, and almost disappear while still capturing excellent footage and audio.
Who we’re looking for
Prior experience matters, but I’m not necessarily looking for someone with 15 years in production.
I’m very open to someone younger who is talented, hungry, curious, and wants to build something great.
What matters most:
- Strong editing, color grading and storytelling skills
- A good eye for what makes a story interesting
- Extremely reliable
- Comfortable traveling
- Able to work independently
- Able to adapt quickly when plans change
- Comfortable working with doctors, business owners, and their teams
- Good judgment about when to step in and when to stay out of the way
- Ability to capture great footage in imperfect and changing environments
- Fast post-production turnaround
Equipment
You should own or have access to a professional but travel-friendly production setup, ideally including:
- 3-camera setup
- Professional lenses
- Tripods / monopods
- Gimbal or handheld stabilization
- Compact lighting setup
- Wireless lavalier microphones
- Shotgun / directional microphone
- Backup audio recording
- Headphones for audio monitoring
- Sufficient batteries, memory cards, storage, and backups for multi-day shoots
- Professional editing software and editing setup
You should be comfortable operating this setup yourself without requiring a large crew.
Where this could go
We’re starting this as a contract project for the first series of visits.
If we work well together, there will likely be significantly more content to produce, and this could develop into an ongoing role or potentially a full-time opportunity with ZenOne.
